On the horizon...

There's no doubt that this little munchkin is approaching toddler-dome and at increasing speeds. I continue to be amazed at Ethan's ever-changing personality which, at times, seems to bear an eerie resemblance to my own.

We now point at everything. We walk everywhere. In fact, most of the time we try to run wherever we are going; again, just like his mom. We eat "big people" food. And by big people food, I mean he eats chicken, tabbouleh, omelets, pita bread, turkey burger, cream of mushroom soup...he's our champ when it comes to eating! We make funny faces. We use a sippy cup. We say "ball" and "mumma" and "dog".  We give out lots of kisses. We know how to climb stairs and turn around to go down a steep hill. This little boy continues to steal my heart; over and over again. He makes me laugh and it always seem to be when I need it the most; it's like he knows.

Yet, as I've posted before...all of this is bittersweet. Just last night my husband and I sat and looked at a picture of my big, round belly not 6 days before we welcomed him into the world. I remember the day we took the picture and we thought I was going into labor. The excitement and the nervousness we were overflowing with now seem a bit silly, but in a sweet and innocent way. Then there was the picture that made me cry; our little Ethan just hours after he was born. This blurry picture was a wake up call that he won't be our "little" Ethan forever. Soon he won't need (or want) to hold our finger when he walks. There will come a day when he won't cry as I walk out the door. And it's all a reminder that while it's wonderful and exciting to know what's on the horizon, I hold onto my memories of yesterday and today a little tighter.
